How the eyes work

Before considering whether LASIK surgery is for you, you have to know how your eye works and why people prefer or are comfortable enough with eyeglasses and contact lenses.
The eye works like a camera, and the retina of the eye is like the camera lens. A clear vision is only possible if light is focused directly on the object being looked at. A blurred image happens when the focus of light is behind or in front of the object. When the eyes do not bend the light in order for it to properly focus, that’s when refractive errors occur.

Now how do you interpret a 20/20 vision? Having a 20/20 vision means that you are able to see at 20 feet what a normal person is supposed to see at 20 feet. A 20/40 vision means that you have to walk 20 feet further to see what a normal person sees at 40 feet. And so on. So if your vision is higher, about 200 or so, you can already be considered as legally blind. Some people though think that contact lenses are enough for them to make their visions clearer.

But if you think that you would be better off without glasses or contact lenses and that your lifestyle would be much better without being dependent on those, you can consider having a LASIK surgery.
